Triggering Event
There were several triggering events during the American Revolution.
1. The Seven Years War - Won by England over France, but at a huge cost. King George III felt the colonies should pay for this war. To do this he increased taxes.
2. The Stamp Act - the first of many taxes that were forced upon the 13 colonies. This was the first tax that the colonies protested.
3. The Boston Massacre - British soldiers open fire on unarmed colonists. This gets the colonists upset.
4. Boston Tea Party - Sons of Liberty dumped tea into the Boston Harbour to protest the Tea Act. To punish them England passed the Five Intolerable Acts.
5. The Shot Heard Round the World - fired at Lexington after a confrontation between English soldiers and the Sons of Liberty. The war was on.
6. The Declaration of Independence is signed on July 4th, 1776.
