In the American Revolutionary War, General Washington led patriot forces to victory over the British and their allies. Washington's biggest challenge was to create an army out of untrained soldiers, with few weapons and no money. It was Washington to keep his troops going when the war seemed hopeless. On December 25th, 1776, Washington and his army crossed the Delaware river into Trenton, New Jersey and surprised the Hessians (who were part of the British army) and easily defeating them. It was a huge moral booster.
